Othmar Andermatt, Zug's first FDP member of the Council of States, is dead. According to the party, he died at the age of 101. The dentist passed away last Saturday, as the FDP Switzerland announced on the short message service X on Wednesday.

The politician had started his political career at municipal level. Othmar Andermatt was a municipal councillor in Baar from 1956 to 1978 and was elected mayor in 1969. With his election to the Small Chamber in 1970, the Zug Free Democrats succeeded in breaking the decades-long dual representation of the then Zug Conservatives (later CVP, now the Center Party) in the Council of States. He was a member of the Council of States for 16 years. He resigned at the age of 64.

According to the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland, Andermatt was a member of all standing committees in the Council of States, with the exception of the Military Committee.
