On the popular motorcycle route over the Salhöhe Jura Pass in Erlinsbach AG, five young motorcyclists were reported for speeding and unnecessary driving on Sunday. This was part of a targeted motorcycle check, as reported by the Aargau cantonal police on Monday.

A laser measuring device was used to specifically record vehicles that were traveling at excessive speeds. In addition, attention was paid to those who caused avoidable noise or unnecessarily drove on the pass road several times, the police wrote.

A 17-year-old who passed the hidden checkpoint on his motorcycle at least four times, revved his engine and was measured at 101 km/h met all the criteria, according to the cantonal police. He had to temporarily surrender his probationary driving license.

A 21-year-old who was driving at 105 km/h and an 18-year-old who was driving at 96 km/h and sometimes only on the rear wheel were also disqualified. Two female motorcyclists, aged 17 and 21, were also reported for driving uphill and downhill several times.

Increased checks

At the beginning of July, the cantonal police announced that they would be carrying out more checks on the pass road, where the speed limit has been set at 60 km/h for the past four weeks. This followed an increase in serious motorcycle accidents since the expansion of the pass road.

"There have been no more major accidents since then," said police spokesman Bernhard Graser when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency, although there is still a large scene of mainly young motorcyclists on the road. The police "don't want to be a spoilsport", but must be present in the interests of road safety and people bothered by traffic noise.
