The distribution point of the "Tischlein deck dich" association in Lengnau AG has distributed food worth over half a million francs since 2019. Every Thursday, people living in poverty can pick up a parcel of donated food from the parish center.

In 2023 alone, 25,000 kilograms of food were distributed in Lengnau, as the "Tischlein Deck dich" association announced on Thursday. Since its launch five years ago, food worth 508,000 francs has been handed out.

Recipients include families, single parents, the working poor, pensioners, IV pensioners and welfare recipients. "Our customers are very grateful to be able to receive rescued food," said collection point managers Nicole Angst and Franziska Voegtlin. This is possible thanks to a team of 30 local volunteers who help out week after week.

The work is doubly gratifying because food waste can also be reduced. The association only distributes rescued food, which is made available by various donors because it can no longer be sold in regular shops.

Soon 14 drop-off points in Aargau

"Tischlein deck dich" claims to be the first food waste organization in Switzerland and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The drop-off point in the Lengnau parish center is one of the association's current 159 drop-off points in Switzerland. In Aargau, the organization says it will open its 14th drop-off point on 18 October in the Reformed parish hall in Oberentfelden.
