Christa Wenger, the former president of the Reformed Church of Lucerne, died on Tuesday at the age of 60. She succumbed to cancer, as the Reformed Church announced on Wednesday.

The parish of Lucerne mourns the loss of "a warm-hearted and committed personality", the church wrote. She will be sorely missed and leaves a void that nothing secular can fill.

Wenger had served as president of the church council of the Lucerne parish since 2021. Prior to this, she was a member of the Grand Church Council and President of the Controlling Commission for eight years, according to the press release. For health reasons, she relinquished the presidency this summer and resigned from the synod of the Protestant Reformed Church.

She had already resigned from all political offices beforehand. She was a politician for the Greens on the city council and also on the cantonal council. In spring 2023, she was a candidate for the cantonal government.
