On Friday, the cantonal institution for active land policy (KAAB) of the canton of Fribourg put its projects in connection with the Agrico campus in St-Aubin out to public tender. The planned investments amount to almost CHF 500 million, of which CHF 80 million will go to KAAB.

CHF 400 million alone is earmarked for the new poultry processing plant of Migros subsidiary Micarna, as detailed in a KAAB press release. This is to replace the existing plant in Courtepin.

Other projects include a regional connection for the drinking water supply and the construction of an industrial wastewater treatment plant. The plans also include mobility infrastructure that takes account of public, individual and non-motorized traffic, as the statement continues.

The aim is for work to begin in summer 2025 and be completed by the end of 2027. The number of jobs is set to rise from the current 120 to over 700, with KAAB aiming to create more than 1,600 jobs in the long term, according to the press release.

The development of the site has been criticized for several months. At the center of the protest is the establishment of the meat producer Micarna. Greenpeace Switzerland recently lodged a complaint with the cantonal court, accusing the state of Fribourg of refusing to publish the purchase agreement between the canton and Migros.

The Agrico-Campus is an industrial site dedicated to the agricultural and food sector. KAAB took over the site in question and two other industrial sites in 2022 after the Fribourg electorate approved the project by a large majority.
