Swimming accident Man drowns in Lake Schwendi near Wildhaus SG

On Tuesday, a 73-year-old Swiss man drowned in Lake Schwendi above Wildhaus. Rescue workers found the lifeless body on the lake bed using a sonar device. Police divers recovered the person.

The police also used drones in the search for the man, the St. Gallen cantonal police announced on Wednesday. Prior to the search operation, the cantonal emergency call center received a report that an abandoned rucksack had been lying at the front of Schwendisee for several hours.

The deceased man was from the Werdenberg region. According to the police, he probably drowned while swimming.
