In the canton of Solothurn, the centrist party wants to win a second seat on the cantonal council with cantonal councillor and farmers' association managing director Edgar Kupper. On Wednesday evening in Oensingen SO, the delegates' meeting unanimously nominated Kupper and the incumbent member of the cantonal government Sandra Kolly for the general election on March 9, 2025.

The 54-year-old from Laupersdorf brings a wealth of experience and is very well connected in the canton, they said. He is close to the people and can also forge compromises. The party presidency unanimously proposed Kupper to the delegates.
The Mitte delegates also nominated 54-year-old Sandra Kolly, who has been a member of the Solothurn cantonal council since 2021. She is Head of the Department of Construction and Justice. The delegates nominated Kupper and Kolly "unanimously and with a resounding round of applause" for the cantonal council election, the centrist party announced.
The two candidates bring "a good combination of proven expertise and new impetus", party president Patrick Friker is quoted as saying.
Two out of five are not standing again
Peter Hodel (FDP) and Susanne Schaffner (SP) are also seeking re-election. Brigit Wyss (Greens) and Remo Ankli (FDP) will not be standing again in the general election for the five seats on the cantonal council. The Greens and FDP say they want to defend the vacant seats. It remains to be seen who they will send into the race.
The SVP has so far failed in all its attempts to win a seat on the Solothurn executive, but has announced that it will run again. This is likely to be with one or two women. The SP may also nominate a second candidate alongside Susanne Schaffner.
From August 19, the canton will make the forms for the election nominations for March 9, 2025 available, as stated in a press release on Tuesday.
