A 61-year-old man crashed a motorcycle into a metal railing in Lichtensteig SG on Thursday afternoon. The vehicle caught fire. The fire spread to the rider and seriously injured him, as reported by the St. Gallen cantonal police on Friday.

The accident occurred shortly after 2.20 p.m., the statement continued. The injured motorcyclist was flown to hospital by Rega helicopter.

In addition to several patrols from the St.Gallen cantonal police, around 15 members of the fire department were also deployed.
