The shareholder municipalities have announced their support for Wetzikon Hospital, which is in financial difficulties. But with conditions: The twelve municipalities are only prepared to give money if there is an economically viable concept.

In principle, the municipalities are prepared to make a contribution to the financial restructuring, according to a statement issued by the shareholder municipalities of GZO AG Spital Wetzikon on Friday. However, conditions and documents are required for such a financial contribution.

Those responsible are now in the process of clarifying these conditions. However, this will take some time, according to the press release. It therefore remains to be seen when a decision will be made.

Consequences of a decision by the canton

The GZO AG operates a regional specialist hospital in Wetzikon. It has 150 beds and employs around 900 staff. At the beginning of April, it became known that the hospital had turned to the canton of Zurich and asked for a loan of 180 million francs. However, the canton did not comply with the request; the hospital was not considered "indispensable". It was not absolutely necessary for the hospital care of the Zurich population.

GZO AG lodged an appeal against the government council's decision with the administrative court. The municipalities are now campaigning for the appeal to be suspended, as stated in the press release. This was decided after an "in-depth analysis of the situation and careful consideration".

The hospital has been in debt-restructuring moratorium since the beginning of May. However, hospital operations are continuing.
