The National Council does not want to prohibit state-funded or supported companies from making donations to political parties and campaigns. It rejected a corresponding motion from the SP parliamentary group by a clear majority on Wednesday.
The SP parliamentary group demanded that parties, campaigns and candidates should no longer be allowed to accept donations from public companies and actors backed by state guarantees. Systemically important companies should also no longer be allowed to make donations.
The National Council voted against the motion by 117 votes to 58, with one abstention. It was supported by the SP and the Greens. With the No vote, the motion is off the table. The Council of States will nevertheless decide on the matter. It has before it an identical motion by Baptiste Hurni (SP/NE).
