Anyone who visits a hospital emergency room for a minor ailment will have to pay a fee in future. The National Council committee responsible is sticking to this proposal - despite many critical voices during the consultation process. Now it's the National Council's turn.

The National Council's Social Affairs and Health Committee (SGK-N) voted 13 to 12 in favor of the bill to introduce higher cost sharing for minor cases in hospital emergency admissions, as reported by the parliamentary services on Friday. In the consultation process, the idea was almost exclusively rejected by associations and parties.

Nevertheless, the SGK-N is sticking to it. The concept of the committee majority envisages that insured persons will be charged a surcharge of fifty francs on their co-payment each time they visit the hospital emergency room. There are to be exceptions to this. The authority to introduce and implement this measure should lie with the cantons.

Next, the Federal Council will comment on the bill before it is the turn of the upper chamber.
