The bill aims to relieve the burden on retirement and nursing homes. With 129 votes in favor and 59 against, the large chamber approved the bill in the overall vote. A motion to reject the bill by the SVP parliamentary group failed in the Council.
The majority of the National Council then also followed the proposals of its Social Security and Health Committee (SGK-N). Supplementary benefits are intended to support, among other things, household help and additional contributions for a night assistance service, a meal service, driving services and companionship as well as an emergency call system, depending on need.
The Council rejected a red-green minority motion to extend supplementary benefits to include support and assistance with everyday living, a visiting service and advice and coordination.
It also voted in favor of the SGK-N for assistance in the psychosocial area. This includes support for maintaining self-determination and independence in everyday life, social and societal participation and the prevention of social isolation, immobility and mental crises.
The Council of States must next decide on the bill.
