The National Council wants to intensify controls at the Swiss border. It is also calling for criminal asylum seekers to be excluded from the asylum procedure. And it wants to restrict the freedom of movement of asylum seekers who are under investigation.

The Grand Chamber adopted three motions to this effect on Monday as part of its special debate on asylum. The Council of States will now decide on them. Similar motions are on the agenda in the lower chamber on Thursday.
The motion on border controls was submitted by the National Council's Security Policy Committee (SIK-N). The two other motions that were adopted came from the SVP.
The SVP parliamentary group called for further tightening in the area of asylum with additional motions. Specifically, it wanted asylum applications from people arriving via safe third countries to no longer be accepted and those affected to be turned back at the border. It also called for restrictions on family reunification. This did not find a majority in the Council.
