Agriculture National Council wants to approve plant protection products from the EU more quickly
In future, plant protection products that have already been approved in a neighboring EU country, the Netherlands or Belgium will be available more quickly in Switzerland. The National Council has approved a corresponding bill.

The large chamber adopted the bill on Thursday by 121 votes to 73 with 2 abstentions. The matter now goes to the Council of States.
Representatives of the SP, Greens and GLP opposed the bill. They argued, among other things, that obsolete toxic substances could end up in Swiss waters and that environmental protection would be weakened even further.
On the other hand, supporters, including the SVP, FDP and Center Party, argued that Swiss agriculture was in crisis. The draft law would support the production capacity of agriculture. Old pesticides could thus be replaced by new plant protection products.
