Pfister approached the lectern in the National Council chamber still somewhat out of breath. During the election campaign, he said that barracks were more familiar to him than the Federal Palace. "But now I feel comfortable in both worlds." He thanked Parliament for its warm welcome.
The foundations of Switzerland had been shaken a few times - both at home and abroad. It is possible that major geopolitical changes are imminent, which will challenge Switzerland in terms of security policy and other political areas, said Pfister. Extraordinary commitment is therefore needed at all levels.
He is looking forward to working with his colleagues, said Pfister, and acknowledged the principle of collegiality: "As a member of the Zug cantonal government, it was always more of a pleasure than a burden for me. That won't change for me as a federal councillor."
Pfister thanked his opponent Markus Ritter. "It was a very intense but fair election campaign".
