The legal disputes surrounding the demolition of a shack on Schlossstrasse in Nidau have been concluded. The city has now begun demolition work, as it announced on Monday.

All legal disputes have been decided in favor of the town, the Nidau authorities announced on Monday. In addition to the opposition from tenants, GFL municipal councillor Beat Cattaruzza also submitted a complaint.

He accused his fellow councillors of not discussing the controversial decision in the municipal council, or not discussing it sufficiently. According to a press release from the city, the regional governor's office did not respond to the complaint.

The barracks housed two long-term tenants. The city's real estate strategy envisaged that only as much would be invested in the hut as was absolutely necessary for its use. After all, it was intended to make way for boat moorings, among other things.

When the oil heating, among other things, led to ever-increasing repairs, the city no longer saw an economically viable solution and terminated the lease. Last March, the Nidau city parliament rejected a motion to stop the demolition plans.
