After the Council of States, the National Council has also voted in favor of a proposal for a new asylum strategy. Among other things, it demands that the number of asylum applications be significantly reduced.

The Federal Council's 2027 asylum strategy is not a strategy. Therefore, the national government must present a new one, which should, among other things, restrict family reunification, according to the text of the SVP parliamentary group's motion. It was adopted by the National Council in an extraordinary session on the topic of security.

The number of asylum applications and asylum costs should also be significantly reduced and asylum-related crime curtailed. Asylum and appeal procedures should be accelerated and the number of returns increased.

A motion with the same wording by Councillor of States Hannes Germann (SVP/SH) was adopted in the Council of States the previous day. In fact, however, the motion still has to be adopted by the other chamber of parliament. However, this is considered a formality. The same applied to another SVP motion for ten-day curfews or detention of recalcitrant asylum seekers in federal asylum centers.

Motions for the extraordinary session were submitted by members of all parliamentary groups represented in the Council. A motion to pass on the security costs of demonstrations to the organizers from the Centre Party was also adopted.

Another motion from the GLP was also adopted, calling for simplified procedures for multiple offenders without proper residence or residency status. Finally, a motion to protect victims of gender-based violence without regular residence status was also supported. This came from the SP.
