Local and regional radio and TV stations will receive a higher share of the licence fee pot in future. This has been decided by Parliament. On Monday, the Council of States amended a bill that takes up parts of the media package that was rejected at the ballot box in 2022.

Specifically, private radio and television stations are to receive six to eight percent of the income from the media fee in future instead of the current four to six percent. This idea was newly launched by former member of the Council of States Philippe Bauer (FDP/NE).

A second revised proposal provides for additional funding for training and further education institutions for media professionals, for news agencies such as Keystone-SDA, for the operation of the Foundation for Usage Research (Mediapulse) and for self-regulatory organizations such as the Press Council. This request originally came from Councillor of States Isabelle Chassot (center/FR).

The two items of business are ready for the final votes at the end of the winter session.
