On Wednesday, the Nidwalden district council voted in favor of a partial revision of the school law without discussion. This means that the curative education school in Stans will be run as a day school in future.

The partial revision of the Elementary School Act passed the final vote without a request to speak and without a dissenting vote. All parliamentary groups and the preparatory Education, Culture and Economics Committee (BKV) were already in agreement at the first reading.

With the revision of the Education Act, the Stans Special Education School (HPS) will be run as a day school in future. Childcare is planned during the regular school weeks. The introduction is planned for August 1, 2025. The increased childcare provision is the result of a motion by two district councillors.

The reform affects two other areas of elementary school. In future, municipalities will not require the approval of the cantonal government for the construction of new school buildings. And: parents will now have to pay less for compulsory school events such as excursions, camps or school trips. According to the Federal Supreme Court, parents may only be charged for catering costs.
