The Ausserrhoden cantonal police measured two drivers in Herisau on Thursday evening and the following night during breath tests, each with a blood alcohol level of over one per mille. According to the police, a 67-year-old man had to surrender his driver's license. A 46-year-old never even had a driver's license.

The 67-year-old man caused a grazing collision with his car in Herisau on Thursday evening, as the Appenzell Ausserrhoden cantonal police wrote in a statement on Friday. During the accident investigation, the patrol noticed symptoms in the man that indicated alcohol consumption. A conclusive breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.36 per mille.

The 46-year-old driver was noticed after midnight during a traffic stop. The breath sample showed over one per mille. The man had already been pulled over by the police several years ago without a driver's license, as a spokesperson for the Ausserrhoden cantonal police told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request. The man will be reported to the public prosecutor's office.
