In 2023, 2.5 million passengers used regional public transport in the canton of Thurgau. This is ten percent more than in the previous year, according to a press release issued by the State Chancellery on Wednesday.
The next development steps are set out in the public transport concept for the years 2025 to 2030. A total of 551 responses were received during the consultation process. There were concerns about the timetable and costs. These comments have been taken into account in the new version of the concept.
Higher compensation
In future, commuter trains will run every half hour. Buses will run at least every half hour from Monday to Saturday until 8 p.m. in compact urban areas and between centers. At other times, buses will run every hour.
Outside the more densely populated centers, buses should run every hour throughout the week until 8 pm. If the minimum cost recovery ratio is not achieved, alternative services will be examined.
According to the press release, the planned service improvements will lead to higher payments to the transport companies. Overall, the canton and municipalities would have to expect additional costs of CHF 16 million for public transport in 2030 compared to 2022.
