A stranger armed with a knife woke a couple from their sleep in their home in Endingen AG on Sunday night. The masked man threatened the younger couple and stole cash. He took their cell phones and locked the victims in the bathroom.

The husband was able to free himself through the window and alerted the police at around 3.30 a.m., the Aargau cantonal police reported on Monday. The two victims were found unharmed but very frightened.

They woke up shortly after 3.00 a.m. and realized that the masked man was standing in front of them, the police reported. Despite a manhunt by several patrols, the perpetrator remained missing until Monday afternoon.

According to the police, the two victims described the robber, who spoke in dialect, as a 16- to 25-year-old man of slim build. He had covered his face with a black T-shirt and was wearing felt finches. He is said to have smelled of sweat.

Previously rattled at another front door
