The canton of Bern wants the football campus near Rörswil to be built more quickly. The cantonal government has decided to designate the project as a priority for the land use planning and building permit procedure, as announced.

The decision will speed up the examination of the project, as stated in a press release on Thursday.

The new training pitches would make a key contribution to reducing the shortage of football pitches for women's football and youth development. At the same time, amateur and popular sports will also benefit. There are also too few sports grounds for these in the Bern agglomeration.

According to the canton, a football campus with seven football pitches, a triple sports hall and the new construction of the cantonal observation station Bolligen (BEO) is to be built in the Rörswil area near the city of Bern on the municipal border between Bolligen and Ostermundigen. The project was announced in April.

The driving force behind the project is the Young Boys football club, which lacks training pitches. YB will operate the football pitches on the new campus, as announced in April. A small stadium for YB's first women's team is also to be built in Rörswil.
