The Roman town of Augusta Raurica has been awarded this year's recognition prize by the "Strong Region Basel/Northwestern Switzerland" association. The association announced on Thursday that the award is in recognition of the preservation of one of the most important archaeological sites in Switzerland, the research and preservation of cultural heritage and educational work.

It also praised the "involvement of all generations" in the further development of the well-known ancient site, which is located on both Basel and Aargau soil. The award ceremony will take place on September 19 at the Theater der Römerstadt in Augst.

The symbolic prize has been awarded annually by "Starke Region Basel/Nordwestschweiz" since 2000. The aim is to recognize individuals or organizations that have made a contribution to cooperation across cantonal borders.

The association is made up of people from the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Baselland as well as Schwarzbubenland and Fricktal. They include numerous politicians from various parties.
