On July 14, the emergency call center received a report that a person had gone under in the Linth near Schänis and had not resurfaced. A large contingent of firefighters, rescue services, river rescuers, police divers and various police patrols began the search for the missing person.
On the evening of the following day, the rescue services called off the search. The search had been unsuccessful.
Six days after the man disappeared, a body was recovered by the lake rescue service and the cantonal police around 200 meters off the shore of Obersee. "Formal identification by the Institute of Forensic Medicine has revealed that it is the 31-year-old Romanian," the police wrote on Wednesday.
Various police forces and the Swiss Life Saving Association (SLRG) are currently warning against swimming in rivers. Due to the high water levels, unpredictable and dangerous eddies and currents can arise.
