A suspected swimming accident was reported to the police in Neuhausen SH on Thursday. The search for the person was called off after a few hours with no results.

A passer-by reported to the Schaffhausen police a swimmer in the Rhine who had almost collided with a pillar of the Flurlingersteg, the Schaffhausen police said on Thursday evening. After this incident, the person could no longer be seen.

Several patrols as well as the water police with divers and boatmen were dispatched to search for the swimmer. A rescue helicopter was also deployed to assist in the search operation.

Despite intensive efforts, the swimmer was not found. No further information about the person is currently available, according to the statement.
