There was a serious accident at Paulusplatz in Lucerne on Wednesday morning. A bus crashed across four lanes of traffic into a park.
At the junction with the main road, the articulated bus crashed into the rear of a delivery van for reasons that are still unclear. The bus was deflected to the left, crossed several lanes and crashed into a tree. This lifted the bus onto the adjacent retaining wall of the Lindengarten, according to the Lucerne cantonal police.
A 25-year-old eyewitness told "20 Minuten" about a loud bang that woke her up. The fire department, ambulance, emergency doctors and several police cars were on the scene. Personnel from the Lucerne public transport company (VBL) also helped with traffic control.
Suspected health problem
The police confirmed the accident. The bus driver was taken to hospital on suspicion of a health problem, the cantonal police wrote in a statement. The passengers on the bus were not seriously injured. They were looked after by members of the Lucerne city fire department and the rescue service.
