The planned signing of the Bilateral Agreements lll by the Federal Council on Monday also marks a "historic milestone", said Nussbaumer in an interview with Keystone-SDA on Thursday. "So it's the perfect moment for a resignation."

The President of the National Council for 2023/24 went on to say that there was not as much left to tweak after the signing of the agreement as was "wrongly" portrayed. That is why he is not sorry that he will miss the Council debate.

Miriam Locher, a member of the Baselbieter SP regional council, will take her place. Nussbaumer went on to say that she had already been informed of his resignation at an early stage. According to the 65-year-old, he intends to devote himself to other political offices and above all to his family from the end of April.
