Traffic Staffelegg-Thalheim link in the Aargau Jura open again

The cantonal road between the Staffelegg pass and Thalheim AG is open again. After a construction period of six and a half months, the renovated section was reopened on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the canton of Aargau.

According to the Department of Construction, Transport and the Environment (BVU), the old pavement containing pollutants was completely replaced by a new two-layer pavement over a distance of 1.2 kilometers. The previously inadequate load-bearing capacity has been improved with a new road surface.

Thanks to the full road closure, the construction time was significantly shorter. The Staffelegg Pass between Aarau and Frick remained open; access to the pass from and to Thalheim in the Schenkenberg Valley had been closed since the start of construction on February 26.

The hiking trail, which previously ran partly on the cantonal road, was also newly created. The construction work is not quite finished yet, as the BVU writes. However, the remaining work can be carried out without disrupting traffic.
