The city of Bern has set the bar higher for a free night than Zurich and Basel. Even if the Swiss national football team wins its European Championship quarter-final on Saturday, fans will not be able to celebrate with a free night.

"The normal legal regulations apply," said the security directorate on Friday in response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency. "Businesses must close at 00:30 and a quiet night must be observed in outdoor areas from 23:00."

But postponed is not canceled: If the Nati actually reach the semi-finals, the pubs in the city of Bern can remain open without restrictions next Wednesday.

The same applies on Sunday, July 14, if Switzerland reaches the final, as Alice Späh, Head of Communications at the Security Directorate, explained. In outdoor areas, however, the night's rest would also be observed in this case.

Several cities in the canton of Zurich and also Basel had announced a free night for Saturday on Thursday in the event that Switzerland beat England. There would then be no curfew in indoor pubs.

Cheering with moderation

Meanwhile, the Bern cantonal police reminded everyone of the rules for motorcades. These include, for example, that flags may not be held out of vehicle windows.

The police generally want to exercise a sense of proportion during spontaneous celebratory parades. However, they reserve the right to "take appropriate measures" if the regulations are not observed.
