The election Sunday thus led to a historic shift: the FDP, previously a broadly anchored people's party, will no longer be the most strongly represented party in the cantonal council in the coming term of office for the first time in over 125 years.
With 22 seats, the Free Democrats were still one seat ahead of the SVP and two each ahead of the SP and the Center Party. With the loss of two seats, the FDP now has 20 seats.
With its new 25 seats (+ 4), the SVP has clearly overtaken it. And the SP also slipped past it with 21 seats (+1). The centrist party, which four years ago still ran as the CVP, was able to keep its 20 seats unchanged.
In addition to the Liberals, the ecological forces also suffered losses. The Greens were able to keep their losses to a minimum; they still have nine seats (-1). The Green Liberals now have four seats - not only losing two seats, but also their parliamentary group strength. The EPP was able to hold on to its only seat.
Voter turnout in the five districts was between 34.1 and 38.6 percent.
