According to interim CEO Alex Glanzmann, Swiss Post wants to focus on the integration of the companies it has acquired. Glanzmann said this in an interview with Tamedia when asked whether Swiss Post would continue its "shopping spree".

Swiss Post has acquired the skills and technologies that are now to be integrated into Swiss Post like pieces of a puzzle, Glanzmann said in the interview on Saturday. The company bought two companies last year and none this year.
He did not rule out further acquisitions "if a sensible opportunity presents itself". The interim head of Swiss Post said that the challenges posed by falling earnings remain.
Driving forward digitalization
By investing in the digital business, the yellow giant wanted to respond to the declining letter and parcel business as well as falling over-the-counter payments and take account of the changing needs of the population and the economy. For example, the Group took over the cloud provider "Tresorit", the provider of digital advertising platforms "Livesystems" and the administration tool "Klara".
Companies were not bought to compete with SMEs, said Glanzmann, adding: "We need the technologies to further develop our own digital products such as e-post."
Parliament wants stricter monitoring
In order to safeguard the universal service, Swiss Post should be allowed to offer services outside of the public service, said the interim CEO. "If we are restricted too much here, we will have a serious problem." If politicians restrict the scope for action in the digital sector, "then we will have to talk about a system change and subsidies", warned Glanzmann.
Parliament wants to put Swiss Post on a tighter leash when it comes to company acquisitions. The Federal Council should have to approve acquisitions outside of Swiss Post's service mandate, according to a motion passed by the Council of States in March. In addition, Swiss Post's plans must be justified to the relevant Council committees. In a negative statement, the Federal Council referred to the strategic guidelines for the federally owned company and the fact that politics has no influence on Swiss Post's operational business.
