The municipalities of Central Switzerland have scored highly in a ranking published by the "Handelszeitung" newspaper: two municipalities from the cantons of Lucerne and Zug and one municipality from Nidwalden each took first to fifth place.

The "most attractive municipality" in Switzerland is therefore Meggen. The Lucerne lakeside municipality improved from fifth to first place compared to 2023, as the Handelszeitung reported on Thursday.

The other two podium places were secured by Hergiswil NW and Oberkirch LU. Both made up more than 20 places compared to the previous year.

The two best-placed companies from 2023 lost some ground in the ranking, with Cham ZG dropping from second to fourth place and Zug from first to fifth.

In addition to Meggen, Hergiswil, Oberkirch, Cham and Zug, there are seven other municipalities in Central Switzerland in the top 20. These are Freienbach SZ (7th place), Hünenberg ZG (9th), Risch ZG (11th), Küssnacht SZ (12th), Walchwil ZG (15th), Wollerau SZ (19th) and Lachen SZ (20th).

The twelve municipalities in Central Switzerland are joined among the most attractive 20 by six municipalities in Zurich, one in Vaud and one in Graubünden.

All municipalities with more than 2000 inhabitants were compared for the municipal ranking. According to the "Handelzeitung", 51 factors were taken into account, such as the level of taxes, property prices, safety, location and the range of schools, childcare facilities and shopping opportunities. The evaluation was carried out by the consulting firm Iazi.
