The public prosecutor's office charged the man with unfair competition at the Kreuzlingen district court, it wrote in a statement on Monday. As managing director of four companies based in the canton of Thurgau, the accused "failed to prevent the use of particularly aggressive sales methods and misleading information about services and their prices in breach of his duties".
On behalf of the four companies, call centers are said to have called mainly elderly people and people in need of care residing in Germany. "Goods and services in the health and nutrition sector" were sold, a media spokesperson for the Thurgau public prosecutor's office told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The Thurgau public prosecutor's office has been investigating the case since 2021 at the request of German authorities. According to the statement, it is now requesting a prison sentence of 18 months and a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs, as well as a three-year activity ban.
