Mettler received the research prize for his current investigation into how workplace monitoring has changed with the increasing use of data and artificial intelligence. The canton of Thurgau announced this in a press release on Monday. The work clearly demonstrates what is already possible in terms of surveillance.

According to the press release, Mettler intends to use the prize money of 15,000 Swiss francs to publish a non-fiction book on the topic, which will present the social impact of networked surveillance to a broad audience.

The young researcher prize of 3,000 Swiss francs goes to agricultural scientist Andreia Arbenz, who wrote her Master's thesis at the Agroscope research institute in Tänikon TG. Her thesis dealt with the acceptance of political measures to increase sustainable food consumption.

The Walter Enggist Research Prize has been awarded by the "Thurgau Science Competence Pool" since 2019. The funds come from the legacy of Walter Enggist from Frauenfelden, who died in 2016. He left around six million francs to the canton, which will be used to promote online education and research.

The prizes will be awarded on September 19 in Frauenfeld.
