Ticino parties condemn mini-reshuffle in the government

The Ticino parties have harshly criticized the mini-reshuffle in the departments of Norman Gobbi and Claudio Zali (both Lega). The government has engaged in a political power game instead of dealing with the real problems in the canton.

For the "Avanti con Ticino & Lavoro" party, the castling is a "farce on the backs of the people of Ticino": there are serious problems in the canton, such as low wages, precarious working conditions and companies in need.

Nevertheless, the government finds time for a trip to the countryside and a round of "Monopoly". The castling of the relevant departments in the Gobbi and Zali ministries is a "political power play".

The FDP is not holding back with criticism either. The decision to approve at least a mini reshuffle is a "clear admission of the political failure of the Lega leadership in both departments concerned". Zali heads the construction and environment department, while Gobbi was head of the justice and police department.

There are numerous blocked projects and questionable working methods in both departments, the FDP Ticino continued. In view of this "half-hearted and makeshift decision", the FDP's attention to the smooth functioning of the canton will be even sharper and more consistent in future. This phase of a further political crisis of confidence must be overcome.

Special session of parliament called for

According to the "Movimento per il Socialismo", the decisions taken by the government council "do not follow any recognizable political logic". The government as a whole is once again demonstrating its "profound inadequacy and inability" to respond appropriately to the urgent problems facing citizens.

The decision taken raises fundamental political questions that Parliament should consider and discuss. The party therefore submitted a request for a special session of the Grand Council.

On Wednesday evening, following an extra muros meeting in Bedretto, the Ticino government approved a mini reshuffle in the departments of the two Lega government councillors. The government rejected the complete departmental reshuffle announced by the two politicians at the beginning of June.

Gobbi relinquishes police leadership once again

Zali will take over the political leadership of the Department of Justice from September 1 until the end of the legislature in April 2027. In addition, Gobbi is temporarily relinquishing responsibility for the cantonal police - also taking into account the upcoming trial against two cantonal police employees, according to a government statement. Instead, Gobbi will take over the management of the building construction department in Zali's department.

At the end of March 2024, the public prosecutor's office in Ticino initiated a criminal investigation following a traffic accident involving Gobbi in November 2023. It was intended to clarify whether a criminal offense had been committed in connection with the incident and during the investigation. Gobbi himself was not investigated in connection with the accident.
