The new track 1 and platform at Liestal station will go into operation on July 15, 2024. From then on, mainly S-Bahn S3 trains heading towards Olten will stop there. The track will be completed as part of the major conversion project for the four-track extension and the Liestal reversing track, as announced by SBB on Wednesday.

The points required for this track will be installed by mid-July. Long-distance trains in the direction of Olten and Aarau will stop on track 3, while suburban trains and long-distance trains in the direction of Basel will stop on track 4. However, due to the numerous construction works between Basel and Olten, there will be frequent track changes, the SBB writes.

However, no trains will run on track 2 from mid-July 2024 until probably 2025. The reason for this is the work to connect the reversing track. However, thanks to the new track 1, this interruption will have no impact on the timetable, the statement continues.

Closures at the station due to surfacing work

The four-track expansion has also left its mark on the roads near the station. For this reason, the canton of Baselland, together with the SBB, will be renewing the surface in Oristalstrasse and Banhhofstrasse, as announced by the Department of Construction and Environmental Protection (BUD).

This work will be carried out over two weekends with full road closures. The first stage begins on Friday evening and lasts until Monday morning, July 15. The second stage is scheduled for the weekend of July 19-22. During this time, the Oristalstrasse underpass and Bahhofstrasse will be closed. A large-scale detour will be signposted, it is reported.
