Currently, 220 people with protection status S are being accommodated in the canton of Obwalden, the Department of Security and Social Affairs wrote on Tuesday. According to the federal government's forecast, there is no immediate end to the war in Ukraine in sight. Based on this, the cantonal authorities expect the number of people seeking protection to increase to 230 in 2025.
The Krone Hotel in Giswil has proven its worth as a collective accommodation facility, the authorities added. It is currently home to 90 people. A further 130 people are housed in private accommodation.
It is pleasing that the number of privately accommodated refugees has remained consistently high, said the head of the department, Christoph Amstad, in the press release. The private places are an important part of overcoming this crisis.
