In the canton of Solothurn, the number of registered unemployed rose by 171 people to 3,486 in July. As a result, the unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage points to 2.3 percent compared to the end of June, as announced by the cantonal chancellery on Tuesday.

The weak economy was responsible for the increase, it said. There are major regional differences. Unemployment is lowest in the Thierstein/Dorneck region at 1.8 percent and highest in the Grenchen region at 3.3 percent.

In July, 25 companies in the canton of Solothurn registered for short-time work or wanted to extend their existing permits. This could affect 643 jobs.
