Grand Council BE Witzwil prison receives new heating system

On Monday, the Grand Council approved a loan for a new heating system at Witzwil Prison. However, the project will only go ahead if it is not canceled as part of the investment prioritization process.

Parliament voted unanimously in favor of the CHF 4.88 million loan. The Grand Council also backed three of the building committee's proposals. The new heating system may only be built if the project is not canceled as part of the Grand Council's investment prioritization in the winter session.

In addition, when building the new heating system, it should be examined whether it could be expanded with a biogas and solar thermal system.

According to the Government Council, the heating system at Witzwil Prison has reached the end of its life cycle and is frequently affected by malfunctions. The existing woodchip heating system is now to be replaced by a new woodchip heating system with heat storage.
