Zurich's Director of Finance Ernst Stocker has presented the draft budget for 2026. This envisages a deficit of 139 million francs.
The expected deficit corresponds to 0.7 percent of total expenditure, as announced by the Zurich cantonal government on Friday. The cantonal government expects higher expenditure in areas such as contributions to the cantonal financial equalization scheme, inpatient hospital care and premium reductions. Due to the good economic situation, higher tax revenues are also expected.
The cantonal government intends to leave the tax rate unchanged at 98%. The SVP and FDP have already announced their intention to reduce the tax rate by 5 percentage points.
