Tens of thousands of music fans flocked to the Lollapalooza music festival in Berlin in midsummer temperatures. The organizers expected more than 50,000 visitors for the start of the two-day festival on the Olympic grounds. The highlight of the first evening was to be the performance by summer hit rapper Shirin David ("Bauch Beine Po").

The fans braved the heat and danced exuberantly in front of the seven stages from the afternoon hours onwards - many visitors were equipped with fans at over 30 degrees. Tips to combat the heat were shown on video screens. According to the organizers, the festival got off to a smooth start.
High security measures after Solingen
Following the fatal knife attack in Solingen, the organizers had announced that they would adapt the security measures to the current circumstances in consultation with the authorities. As with every major event, the measures are high, the organizers emphasized. Admission controls appeared to be proceeding without any major delays until the evening. The concerts by British singer Sam Smith ("I'm Not The Only One"), rapper Cro ("Easy") and Nigerian Afrobeat musician Burna Boy ("City Boys") are also eagerly awaited.
Lollapalooza has been taking place on Berlin's Olympic grounds since 2018. The US festival was founded in 1991 by Perry Farrell, lead singer of the band Jane's Addiction. In 2015, Lollapalooza celebrated its European premiere on Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin.
