This marks the longest day and shortest night in the northern hemisphere. From now on, the length of the day decreases again. Summer lasts until September 22, when the sun rises vertically above the equator at 8.19 pm.

For meteorologists, summer always begins at the same time, on June 1. It lasts exactly three calendar months until August 31, wrote Meteonews. This definition stems from the fact that whole months were advantageous for meteorologists, especially in earlier times, for easier statistical comparability. The meteorological start of summer is completely independent of the weather.

The phenological beginning of summer, on the other hand, depends on the state of development of nature, when the black elder and peonies bloom in the lowlands. However, these already bloom in the first half of May, according to the communiqué. According to the phenology, we are already in midsummer, as the hydrangeas and lime trees are already in bloom.
