Does the Jeep Avenger live up to the brand's legendary reputation? Cyndie Allemann asked herself this question and you can find out the answer in the article.
The most important facts in a nutshell
Cyndie Allemann tests the first electric Jeep.
It has front-wheel drive and is therefore not really suitable for off-road driving.
A real Jeep is characterized by robustness, an edgy design and, above all, off-road capability. Cyndie Allemann tested whether the Avenger can take up this legacy.
However, the off-road capability is where the compromises begin.
"The car here only has front-wheel drive, so off-roading is not an option with this car," Cyndie clarifies.
With a power output of just 115 kW, the Avenger also lags behind other Jeep models.
"It doesn't really sound like a Jeep, does it," says Cyndie.
And when Cyndie gets right down to it, it's not.
Related to the Opel Mokka and Fiat 600
Jeep is part of the gigantic Stellantis car company. That's why the Avenger shares the platform with other brands such as the Opel Mokka and Fiat 600e.
"That's not necessarily a bad thing. Because the more the platform is used, the more development there is in the platform. But it also makes the cars a bit samey and not so unique anymore," notes Cyndie.
Looks like a Jeep
On the outside, the Avenger remains true to its roots. "I think Jeep has stayed true to the design. The front looks very solid, robust and angular. It looks very 'Jeepy'," adds Cyndie.
However, the interior is characterized by hard plastic, rather robust. Although this is in keeping with the off-road character, it no longer really suits the non-off-road Avenger.
Given the price, Cyndie would have liked a little more equipment. "I don't have any electric seats or heated steering wheel. For the price of over 45,000, I actually expect these two options," criticizes Cyndie.
Comfortable on the road
On the other hand, the E-Jeep impresses Cyndie when driving. It scores points for its well-balanced ride comfort, but is rather unagitated overall.
"It needs 9 seconds from 0-100 km/h. That's quite slow for an electric car. But: the Avenger is motorized enough for everyday use," explains Cyndie.
What Cyndie particularly likes when driving is the overview.
"The Avenger is much smaller than the classic Jeep and I find that really pleasant. The all-round visibility is really good and it has a turning circle of just 10.5 meters. So, for once, I can drive nicely and well in the city with this Jeep," praises Cyndie.
Cyndie's conclusion: Not a Jeep, but still good
Although the Avenger is not a typical representative of its brand, it is a good, solid, compact electric car. However, its looks make it stand out from the crowd.
Cyndie summarizes: "For many, it will be enough that it simply looks different from all other electric cars."
However, Jeep needs to make improvements to the interior and choice of materials in order to meet the expectations of the price.
