The planned nuclear waste repository in Haberstal near Stadel ZH has a name: "Terradura" will be the future name of the large-scale project.

"Terradura" is the result of a vote in which the public was able to take part. Almost 40 percent of the votes received chose the suggestion "Terradura", as announced by those responsible for the name search on Thursday. It won ahead of suggestions such as "Atlasuisse" and "Soluterra".

The deep geological repository for radioactive waste is a project of the century. It has been known since September 2022 that it is to be drilled in the Zurich Unterland, more precisely in Haberstal. The fuel element packaging facility is to be built in Würenlingen AG.
