The city of Bern wants to carry out test planning for its commons. With the involvement of the population, the aim is to explore how the Great and Small Allmend can be further developed for the future. This was announced by the municipal council on Thursday.

Interest groups are also to be involved in the test planning. The aim is to coordinate the various uses in the best possible way, as the municipal council explained in a press release.

The parking spaces on the Grosse Allmend are a central component of the planning. With a new parking garage in the Grosse Allmend area, these above-ground parking spaces could be eliminated. The municipal council would also like to create the possibility for the training pitches required by BSC YB on the Grosse Allmend, as it went on to write.

Both variants with and without training pitches for BSC YB are being examined, and the test planning is "open-ended" in this respect.

However, the test planning would only make sense if the city council also supported the planned new parking garage and the associated internal development of the Wankdorf stadium site in principle.

The municipal council is requesting that the city council increase the credit by CHF 1.32 million from CHF 150,000 to a total of CHF 1.47 million for the implementation of the entire "Neuordnung Allmenden" planning process.

According to the municipal council, parking spaces have at times occupied large areas for decades, significantly restricting the usability, attractiveness and development opportunities of the Allmenden. However, the cantonal structure plan requires a replacement offer should the above-ground parking spaces on the Grosse Allmend be removed.
