At its meeting on Friday, the Obwalden Cantonal Council swore in
- five new members of the Cantonal Council were sworn in.
- Andreas Gasser (FDP) was elected as the new President of the Cantonal Council.
- Substitute elections held for various committees.
- Christian Schäli (CSP) elected as the new Landammann and Daniel Wyler (SVP) as the new Landstatthalter.
- In a second reading, the law introducing the care initiative was unanimously approved.
- discussed an amendment to the Veterinary Act in a first reading. The existing implementing provisions on dealing with dogs with behavioral problems are to be transferred into law with the amendment. No material changes are to be made.
- Parliament did not approve a supplement to the cantonal protection plan for cultural objects of regional and national importance in the municipalities of Alpnach and Giswil. Parliament voted to reject both items of business. The government will have to go back to the drawing board.
- took note of the report of the Interparliamentary Business Audit Committee on the annual report of the Obwalden/Nidwalden IT Service Center.
- acknowledged the report of the Interparliamentary Control Committee on the annual report of the Obwalden/Nidwalden 2023 Road Safety Center.

- a motion by Helen Keiser (CSP) concerning affordable housing in the canton of Obwalden was unanimously converted into a postulate and transferred.
- a motion by Thomas Michel (SVP) on payment cards for asylum seekers was rejected by 15 votes to 33 with one abstention.
