According to the police, over 40,000 people watched the traditional Olma parade through the center of St. Gallen on Saturday morning. According to the Olma fairs, the host canton of St. Gallen presented itself with more than 50 different subjects.

This year, a large number of people attended the spectacle, probably not least because of the good weather, a spokesperson for the St. Gallen city police told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request. There were no major incidents.

Over 1500 St. St. Gallen residents from all regions of the canton took part in the parade to the exhibition grounds, according to the organizers.

The first Saturday of the eleven-day Swiss Agriculture and Food Fair (Olma) is always dedicated to the host canton. St. Gallen's Olma appearance under the motto "uf Bsuech dihei" (Visit home) with an oversized green living room on the exhibition grounds focuses on 30 St. Gallen personalities in the spotlight. Many of the 75 municipalities will also be presenting themselves.

The 81st Olma lasts until October 20. It offers a mixture of folk festival and exhibitions on agricultural and social topics.
