Hundreds of jobs at NGOs in Geneva are at risk due to the reduction in US funding for foreign aid, according to the International Geneva Advisory Center. Thousands of jobs are also being lost at UN organizations.

"To date, it is difficult to determine the exact number of non-governmental organizations affected," said a representative of the Geneva International Advisory Centre (CAGI) to Keystone-SDA on Thursday evening. The number of jobs affected is estimated at several hundred. The Geneva State Council therefore announced on Wednesday an emergency aid plan for the whole of International Geneva amounting to CHF 10 million.

In an e-mail to employees this week, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, announced that jobs directly dependent on the USA would be eliminated. These measures would affect 600 people. At the International Organization for Migration alone, 3,000 redundancies have also been announced.
