Investigations by the public prosecutor's office have revealed that three passengers injured in the fire in Kerzers FR were able to escape from the bus. One passenger is still in a critical condition.
According to a statement from the Fribourg cantonal police, there were nine people in the vehicle. The driver, seven passengers and the suspected perpetrator. Three passengers were able to leave the bus on Monday afternoon. Two other people were slightly injured while trying to help.
According to further investigations, the Postbus was equipped with two passenger doors. These would have opened normally when the vehicle came to a standstill. As the fire broke out while the bus was moving, the doors could only be opened after the bus had come to a stop, according to the press release.
Six people lost their lives; the suspected perpetrator, a 65-year-old man, is also among the victims.
