According to a statement from the Fribourg cantonal police, there were nine people in the vehicle. The driver, seven passengers and the suspected perpetrator. Three passengers were able to leave the bus on Monday afternoon. Two other people were slightly injured while trying to help.

According to further investigations, the Postbus was equipped with two passenger doors. These would have opened normally when the vehicle came to a standstill. As the fire broke out while the bus was moving, the doors could only be opened after the bus had come to a stop, according to the press release.

Six people lost their lives; the suspected perpetrator, a 65-year-old man, is also among the victims.
